What I most want to know is how to change a selection of points once you
have it. Is there no way to deselect 1 or 2 pts without deselecting the
whole. I have tried all combinations that I can think of the shift, ctl,
alt keys.

Hi Jan!
What I do (when I muff up like this) is use the 'hide unselected' then
select to ones I want and 'unhide all'.

Jan,
it's simple. Let's say your object has 26 points:
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
You picked E through P, but didn't want to pick K or O:
abcdEFGHIJKLMNOPqrstuvwxyz
Do a Reverse Pick...
ABCDefghijklmnopQRSTUVWXYZ
Shift-pick K and O... (you can use any selection tool)
ABCDefghijKlmnOpQRSTUVWXYZ
and Reverse Pick again:
abcdEFGHIJkLMNoPqrstuvwxyz
You have removed K and O from your selection. See? I said it was simple!
